Many years ago, the Paleo tribe inhabited the area near San Marcos Springs. Around A.D. 1200, the Tonkawa first pursued farming in Hays County. The first Anglo-American settlers did not arrive in the county until 1835. By 1900, the population of Hays County had nearly doubled. This was mostly due to the introduction of the railroad in 1880. Also in 1880, Fergus Kyle and David Moore's family donated land for Kyle's town site. Dripping Springs was incorporated in 1981. The town was named after its original “dripping springs,” which served as a social area and water source for its native inhabitants.

Dripping Springs and Kyle offer plenty of annual events for residents and visitors to enjoy. It is only fitting that nearby Buda, "The antique capital of Texas," has an event that showcases antiques - Budafest. The event also provides arts and crafts fun, food and entertainment to attendees. Red, White and Buda is another worthy family festival. Founder's Day, Cajun Shrimp Boil and Pound House Fall Festival are just a few of Dripping Springs' events.

Plenty of universities and colleges are within 60 miles of Dripping Springs and Kyle. These include the University of Texas at Austin, St. Edward's University, Texas State University, Austin Community College, University of Texas at San Antonio, San Antonio College and Trinity University.

Residents journey to Founders Park in Dripping Springs or to Gregg-Clarke Park or Steeplechase Park in Kyle for recreational pursuits. 30-acre Founders Park features a community swimming pool, sports complex, ball fields and a playground. Kyle's parks have hiking and biking trails, tennis and basketball courts, ball fields and horseshoe pits.

Hamilton Pool, Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, Pedernales Falls State Park and McKinney Falls State Park provide exciting outdoor alternatives to locals. Hamilton Pool, about 10 miles from Dripping Springs, is a favorite hiking, swimming and picnicking destination. At the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, visitors can explore the history of the 36th President while touring his ranch. Biking, fishing, hiking and wildlife watching are also available at the park. At approximately 5,200-acre Pedernales Falls State Park, locals enjoy camping, hiking, biking, swimming and horseback riding. Residents partake in similar activities at the approximately 750-acre McKinney Falls State Park.
